The Migrant & Seasonal Farm Worker Program provides an opportunity for migrant and seasonal farm workers to participate in education beyond high school or GED to secure employment in a more stable field of work.
We have been in operation for over 30 years in the State of Tennessee. Our case managers will provide you with skills assessment, counseling, individualized employment planning and job readiness preparation after you complete your training.
Depending on your interests and skills assessment, you may be placed in one of three kinds of training. Often, Pell Grants and Lottery Grants may also be available to farm workers who want to continue their education and have financial need.
- Classroom training at one of the Technology Centers across Tennessee or other education facilities. Our program offers participants an hourly stipend to attend school.
- On the Job Training, participants are paired with employers to gain skills or knowledge to perform a specific job. Our program offers minimum wage for a specific time period based on the contract with the employer. (Limited to availability of contracts)
- Work Experience, participants are placed with an employer to learn basic work skills at a work site. Our program offers minimum wage for a specific time period based on the contract with the employer. (Limited to availability of contracts)
Our mission is to assist farm workers and their families to achieve economic self-sufficiency through job training. We are funded by a grant from the Department of Labor under the Workforce Investment Act, Section 167. We want to help you get training in a field where you may be able to obtain a certification in that field such as Welding, Certified Nurse Assistant, Licensed Practical Nurse, Electrical Lineman, Industrial Maintenance, Automotive Technician, Cosmetologist, and other fields that have proven long-term job potential and stability.
Am I Eligible?
You may qualify if you meet the following eligibility requirements.
- You are a citizen of the United States
- For men born after 1960, you have registered for the Selective Service
- You have earned 50% of your income or 50% of your time worked
In farm work during a 12 month consecutive period of time over the past
Two years.
- Your income did not exceed the poverty limit under Health & Human Services
