MIGRANT EDUCATION

Tennessee Opportunity Programs oversees the Migrant Education Program implementation across TN under the direction of the Tennessee Department of Education. There are 12 different Migrant Education programs in the state. We have identified over 3000 students ages 3-21 that are eligible for the program. The Migrant Education Program offers supplemental educational programs to help migrant students better succeed in school. TOPS has staff that work specifically to find and recruit eligible students and also staff that provide in home, after or before school tutoring, and mentoring. Across the state there are programs directly implemented by TOPS and others implemented by local school districts or universities. Tennessee Migrant Education Resource Guide

This summer we have a science theme in several of our programs. We have compiled a list of great experiments that are standards based that can be used in summer programs or on home-visits by staff.

2010 Curriculum Guide for Summer School/Tutoring

This guide has been created for the use in summer school and for use in in-home tutoring. The lessons are designed to provide a framework for interactive instruction in science, reading and language arts. Math can also incorporated into many of the lessons.
